One of Cork City's most beloved entertainment venues has reopened its doors after a decade-long absence, bringing a slice of the city's cultural history back to St Patrick's Street.

The Savoy, which first opened in 1932 as a cinema and later became one of Cork's most storied music venues, reopened on Valentine's night, Saturday 14 February 2026. The revival was made possible through a partnership between local promoters the Good Room, a trio comprising Joe Kelly, Ed O'Leary, and Caoilian Sherlock, and building owners Clarendon Properties.

The reimagined space features two rooms, a main venue and a smaller upstairs lounge, with a combined capacity of nearly 600 people. Guests now enter through a new entrance on Drawbridge Street, while significant investment has been made in sound quality and sightlines throughout. By all accounts the paint was barely dry on opening night, but that didn't stop the crowds from turning up.

The Savoy has been home to some of music history's biggest names over the decades. The Rolling Stones, Rory Gallagher, the Bee Gees, Run DMC and Biffy Clyro are among the acts that graced its stage before it closed in 2016.

Caoilian Sherlock, The Good Room, speaking to the Echo Live, said:

"This has been a really good news story for Cork. We are seeing so many ghosts of the Celtic Tiger where venues were successful only to shut down and never come back. It's great to be on the other side and have the chance to breathe new life into Cork City."

Just one week into the venue's comeback, gigs are already being provisionally booked through to Christmas. An event featuring rugby pundits Ronan O'Gara and former Wales international Dan Biggar is also confirmed for 4 March.

The Savoy can be followed on social media for upcoming event announcements.
