Cork Telephonists Called to Reconnect at Reunion
Former Cork telephonists invited to reunion at Briar Rose, Douglas on 19 October.

Former telephonists who once connected calls across Cork and beyond are being invited to reconnect themselves at a reunion later this month, with organisers hoping to gather as many of the county's telephone exchange workers as possible.
The reunion will take place at the Jazz Bar in the Briar Rose, Douglas, on Sunday, 19 October from 2pm to 6pm.
Telephonists played a vital role in connecting phone calls for people in Cork before automation took over. Working from the GPO in Cork city and sub-exchanges around the county, hundreds of operators helped link callers not just locally, but with people all over the world.

The event is being organised by Ger Hall, Mary Randles and Mary Fuller, who are hoping to bring together people who worked in the various telephone offices across Cork city and county to share stories and catch up.
Ger Hall, organiser:
"We are hoping that as many telephonists who worked in Cork will be able to attend so that we can all meet once again and share some stories. We want to make this reunion one to remember so please do get in touch or even just come on the night if you would like to attend."
Anyone interested in attending can contact Ger Hall for further details on 087 202 0020.
