Looks like we can look forward to the warmest temperatures of 2025 so far this week, with forecasters predicting a dramatic shift from today's cloudy conditions to sunshine and potential highs of 27-28°C by midweek.

After a damp start to Sunday with patchy rain and drizzle clearing eastwards this morning, the weather pattern is set to transform dramatically. Met Éireann reports that high pressure will steadily build near Ireland throughout the week, bringing predominantly dry conditions with plenty of sunshine and just occasional isolated showers.

Monday will mark the beginning of the change, offering dry weather with bright spells - particularly good in eastern areas - though cloud cover will remain. Temperatures will reach a pleasant 16-20°C with moderate southwest winds.

The real transformation arrives on Wednesday, which Met Éireann describes as "a fine summer's day" with dry conditions and plenty of sunshine across most areas. Some northern coastal regions may experience duller conditions temporarily, but temperatures will climb to 17-21°C.

The warming trend continues through Thursday and Friday, with temperatures reaching 18-23°C as conditions become increasingly warm and humid. Light winds and sunny spells are expected, with only isolated showers possible in places.

Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel is even more optimistic about the temperature prospects:

"We're about to experience the highest temperatures of the year so far this coming week as high pressure establishes itself once again across the country. Some of the longer range models are hinting at temperatures in the region of 27 to 28 degrees Celsius across some of the warmer parts of the country."

The forecaster notes that Wednesday will see high pressure positioned northeast of Ireland, allowing a plume of very warm air to push northwards across the country.

For those planning outdoor activities, the UV index will be moderate to high on both Sunday and Monday, whilst pollen levels remain low - good news for hay fever sufferers wanting to enjoy the improving conditions. Don't forget the sun-cream!

The warm, settled conditions will be particularly welcome news for local farmers. Cathal adds practical advice for the agricultural community:

"This of course will come as music to the ears of farmers with the advice being… CUT IT MONDAY!"

The timing of the high pressure system arriving early in the week provides an ideal window for hay cutting and other weather-dependent farm operations across Cork's agricultural areas.

Tonight will remain mostly dry with clear spells, though some coastal areas may see light drizzle developing towards morning. Temperatures will drop to 7-11°C with light southwest winds and possible mist patches.

Looks like we should make the most of what promises to be an exceptional week of summer weather, with conditions set to be ideal for outdoor activities and events across the county.
