Cork Rail Services Face Major Disruption This Weekend Due to Engineering Works
Cork rail disruption 15-16 August: bus transfers replace many Cork-Cobh, Midleton, Mallow, Dublin and Tralee services. Check before travel.
Rail passengers across Cork face widespread disruption on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August, as Iarnród Éireann carries out engineering works between Mallow and Cobh.
The works, part of the Cork Area Commuter Rail signalling project, will affect Cork–Cobh, Cork–Midleton, Cork–Mallow, Cork–Dublin Heuston and Cork–Tralee services across both days.
On the Cork–Cobh line on Saturday, many services will be replaced by direct bus transfers, while a number of other services are cancelled outright throughout the day. On Sunday, Cork–Cobh services switch entirely to bus transfers, with no cancellations. Cork–Midleton services will run by bus transfer rather than train on both days.
Passengers travelling between Cork and Dublin Heuston, and between Cork and Tralee, will need to transfer between bus and train at Mallow in both directions. A number of standalone Cork–Mallow services are also cancelled or replaced by bus at various times over the weekend.
Iarnród Éireann has not given a general estimate of additional journey time, and advises passengers to check their specific journey on its Journey Planner before travelling. The company has apologised for the inconvenience caused.
