Cork GAA Calls on Clubs to Join Third Annual Community Clean Up Day

Cork GAA is calling on clubs across the city and county to take part in its third annual Community Clean Up Day, which will take place on Saturday, 11 April 2026.

The initiative forms part of An Taisce's National Spring Clean month and has grown into one of the largest coordinated county-wide clean-up efforts undertaken by a GAA County Board. Thousands of volunteers took part in previous years, collecting significant volumes of litter from roadsides, parks, walkways, beaches, and community spaces.

Clubs representing hurling, football, camogie, and ladies football are all invited to participate, with members of all ages encouraged to work alongside neighbours and local groups. Equipment, including gloves, bags, and high-visibility vests, will be made available to participating clubs through An Taisce.

This year's event will carry particular significance as Cork GAA marks the memory of the late John Mullins, a founding member of the Cork GAA Sustainability Committee and a driving force behind the establishment of the Community Clean Up Day. His vision and commitment to collective action were central to launching the initiative.

Enda Buckley, County Sustainability Officer, said:

"Cork GAA's Community Clean Up Day has become a key pillar of our Sustainability Vision. It reflects the role our clubs play as centres of sporting excellence and as leaders within their communities. Each year we see extraordinary volunteerism across all age groups, with players and families taking real pride in improving their local environment. As we gather again on April 11th, we also remember John Mullins, whose vision and commitment helped establish this initiative. The best tribute we can pay is to continue growing this movement and strengthening the positive impact our clubs have across the county."

The event is supported by An Taisce, Tidy Towns, SuperValu, Cork County Council, and Cork City Council. Clubs taking part will also be in with a chance to win two signed Cork jerseys, with a competition to be announced in the coming days.

Motorists are asked to take extra care on 11 April while community groups are out working along roadsides and in public spaces across Cork.

Club secretaries have been issued with a registration link directly. The deadline to register is Monday, 30 March. Further information is available on the Cork GAA website.
