A Cork manufacturing and engineering company has joined forces with a local tidy towns group to clean up the area surrounding their base in Togher, removing dozens of bags of rubbish in the process.

Water Technology Ltd partnered with Togher Tidy Towns to remove litter, cut back hedges, and weed areas around the Togher Industrial Estate. Fifteen members of the Water Technology team took part, with volunteers also wading through Liberty Stream as part of the effort.

Among the items recovered were tyres, traffic cones, parts of games consoles, vapes, bottles, road signs, and clothing.

Water Technology is a leading provider of water treatment, hygiene, and environmental solutions, operating in pharmaceutical, dairy, food, and municipal sectors in Ireland and internationally. Headquartered in Togher, the company employs more than 100 people and is celebrating 50 years in business this year.

Hazel Cronin, HR Manager at Water Technology Ltd, said:

"Our team members regularly walk along Liberty Stream during their lunch breaks and we wanted to play our part to help improve the amenity for everyone who enjoys it. It was wonderful to see two herons, ducks and fish in the water. Their presence is thanks to the huge work Togher Tidy Towns have already completed in the area. We look forward to building our relationship with the committee and carrying out more initiatives like this."

Tadg Murphy, Chief Technical Officer at Water Technology Ltd, added:

"Some of the objects we came across, such as PlayStation controllers, were a bit surprising. There were a few traffic cones, tyres and road signs as well as plenty of bottles, vapes and clothing. I would like to thank our volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and even waded through the stream to pick up rubbish. Their efforts have resulted in a noticeable difference to our local area."

Carolyn Miller of Togher Tidy Towns said:

"Well done to Water Technology staff and management on a fantastic job clearing a section of our beautiful river walk. We were under the careful eye of a stunning heron to make sure we did a proper job. Companies like this help make our community a better place to live, we look forward to partnering with more companies in the near future."
