Cork festivals have secured government funding as part of a nationwide initiative supporting small-scale local cultural events across Ireland.

Feile Na Laoch Coolea, Rockchapel Gathering and Art for the Heart in Doneraille were among the successful applicants receiving €14,750 in funding announced today by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan TD. The allocation forms part of a broader €293,252 package supporting 64 small-scale festivals and summer schools nationwide.

The funding scheme is designed to assist local cultural events which may not be eligible for larger-scale funding typically provided by Fáilte Ireland, the Arts Council and similar bodies. Fine Gael Senator Lynch welcomed the announcement, describing the festivals as "a fun event for all the family" and "a special event for people living here."

Senator Lynch explained the scheme's importance:

"This is an important acknowledgement of the richness that culture and the arts brings to all our lives, along with the opportunity to come together as a community to socialise and share traditions."

The senator praised the dedication of those behind the scenes:

"I want to pay tribute to the volunteers, organisers and artists who worked throughout the winter months to prepare for this year's festival, which provides such entertainment and brings joy to so many every year. We rely on their talent, generosity and dedication to deliver this event and appreciate their hard work."

The funding provides crucial support for these community-driven events as they prepare for the 2025 festival season, ensuring local cultural celebrations can continue to bring communities together across Cork.
