Cork County Council's beachguard service has officially concluded its 2025 season, marking the end of another successful summer of water safety across the county's coastline.

The lifeguard service, which operates at beaches throughout Cork during the summer months, reported excellent conditions this year with favourable weather and waves providing ideal circumstances for both beachgoers and rescue teams.

Cork Water Safety announced the season's conclusion yesterday evening, praising the dedicated lifeguards who served communities across the county throughout the summer. The service has been instrumental in maintaining safety standards at Cork's popular coastal destinations during the busy tourist season.

Cork Water Safety said:

  1. "Lifeguards across the county had a great summer with amazing weather, waves and helping people in any way they could."

As the county looks ahead to 2026, recruitment efforts are already underway for next year's lifeguard team. The service is seeking both experienced returning personnel and new recruits to join the vital safety operation.

The organisation expressed optimism about building on this year's success, stating they hope to see familiar faces returning alongside fresh talent for the 2026 season.

With lifeguards no longer on duty at beaches, Cork Water Safety has issued important reminders about water safety during the autumn and winter months. Coastal conditions can become significantly more challenging outside the supervised season, with stronger currents, colder water temperatures, and unpredictable weather patterns.

The public is advised to exercise particular caution around water during the coming months and to follow guidance from Water Safety Ireland for winter safety tips and advice.

Cork County Council's beachguard service has become an essential part of the county's summer safety infrastructure, providing professional rescue capabilities and preventive safety measures at key locations along Cork's extensive coastline.
