Cork's coastline is welcoming a new wave of luxury tourism this summer, with eight cruise ship calls scheduled across Kinsale, Youghal and Bere Island between May and September as part of Cork County Council's 2026 cruise season.

The season is expected to bring more than 1,840 passengers and over 1,170 crew to Cork's harbours, delivering a welcome boost to coastal communities and local tourism businesses across the county.

The season opened in style in Kinsale on Sunday, 10 May 2026, with the arrival of Le Lyrial. The call coincided with Sea Sunday, lending the occasion a fitting maritime significance, with passengers welcomed ashore by musicians from Ballinspittle Comhaltas and dancers from the Céilí Experience. Visitors made the most of their time in the area, with some heading into Cork city and Midleton while others soaked up Kinsale's food scene, history and harbour views.

Cllr Marie O'Sullivan, deputising for the Mayor of the County of Cork, led a delegation aboard Le Lyrial for a formal gift exchange to mark the start of the season.

Le Lyrial continued to Youghal on Monday, 11 May, where guests were treated to a private cultural performance in St. Mary's Collegiate Church. The show was delivered by Cork Cultural Show, led by Angela Ryan, featuring traditional musicians, singers and award-winning Irish dancers performing folk ballads and Irish tunes. The visit underlined Youghal's growing reputation as a cruise destination capable of delivering high-quality cultural experiences.

Cllr Rory Cocking, Chair of the East Cork Municipal District, marked the occasion with a gift exchange with Le Lyrial's captain, the ship's inaugural visit to the town.

Kinsale had a busy opening weekend, also welcoming Le Bellot on 11 May. In total, Kinsale Harbour will host six cruise calls during 2026, with vessels including Le Lyrial, Le Bellot, L'Austral, Le Champlain, SH Diana and Europa. The Hapag-Lloyd Cruises vessel Europa, due in August and carrying more than 400 passengers, is regarded as one of the world's most prestigious luxury cruise ships and represents a major highlight of the season.

Bere Island will also feature on the itinerary, with Island Sky, operated by Noble Caledonia, scheduled to visit in September, offering passengers an intimate island experience rooted in local heritage and landscape.

Five of the eight scheduled calls are operated by Ponant, reflecting the strength of the ongoing relationship between Cork County Council and leading international cruise operators.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, welcomed the season's strong start:

"I am delighted to see the 2026 cruise season kick off so successfully. I am particularly pleased, as a proud Youghal native, to see a cruise call returning to Youghal in 2026, giving visitors the chance to experience its rich history, coastal charm and welcoming atmosphere. Cruise tourism continues to support sustainable economic growth across County Cork."

The season runs through to September, supporting shoulder-season tourism across the county and reinforcing Cork's standing as a distinctive and welcoming cruise destination on the European circuit.
