Cork County Council Treating Roads Overnight as Status Yellow Ice Warning in Effect

Cork County Council gritting crews will treat priority routes overnight as temperatures plummet to between -2 and -5 degrees, with rainfall, sleet and snow forecast throughout the county.

A Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning remains in effect across Cork until 11:00 on Monday, 5th January. Cork County Council is responding with overnight treatment of P1 and P2 routes, while P3 routes will be treated during daylight hours on Monday.

Snow ploughs have been deployed to P1 and P2 routes in North West Cork as conditions deteriorate.

Cork County Council warns there is a high probability of freezing fog and mist leading to widespread black ice formation, even on treated roadways.

Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys if possible. Those who must travel should drive with extreme care and expect icy stretches throughout the county.

Pedestrians and cyclists face particular risk, with footpaths and untreated surfaces likely to be treacherous.

The council advises residents to prepare for severe weather by ensuring mobile phones are fully charged before travelling. All phones should be taken on journeys to enable emergency communication.

In an emergency, dial 999 or 112.

Updates on treated routes and council services are available on Cork County Council's website at www.corkcoco.ie and social media channels @Corkcoco. The council's out of hours number for reporting issues is 021 4800048.
