Cork County Council Seeks Writers for New Community Engagement Programme
Cork County Council seeks experienced writers for new Writers Block programme to engage communities across the county. Applications close 5 January.
Cork County Council Library and Arts Service has launched a call for applications from experienced writers to join its new 'Writers Block' programme, which will bring communities across the county together through creative writing throughout 2026.
The programme invites applications from writers across all genres, from scriptwriting to slam poetry, to develop engagement opportunities with writers' groups, individuals, community groups, schools, and others interested in writing. Writers will be appointed to work in specific areas across County Cork.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley, said:
"I welcome the launch of this new Arts programme. 'Writers Block' will reach many towns and villages across the county, and I look forward to seeing the collaborative works that are created between these communities and talented writers. I encourage any interested writers to apply for this programme."
The selected writers will develop creative writing opportunities across communities in their defined areas, engaging with diverse audiences including older people, youth, and hardly-reached communities. They will also work with local writers' groups in Library Branches throughout their areas.
The programme includes opportunities for panel members to collaborate with each other, sharing knowledge, programming events, and developing shared outputs.
Full details on how to apply are available on corkcoco.ie. The closing date for completed applications is 5th January 2026.
The Writers Block programme is managed by Cork County Council Library and Arts Service with support from The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
