Cork County Council has launched the Town Centre First Regeneration Plan for Kanturk, following a specific funding allocation by the Department of Community, Rural Development and the Gaeltacht for the development of a community-led vision for the town.

Developed in partnership with the Kanturk Community, the plan reflects a collaborative approach under the national Town Centre First policy framework. The development process began with a public consultation in May 2024, including an information evening held in the town, with 302 community submissions received in total.

Those submissions informed the work of a Town Team of nine local representatives, working alongside the Elected Members of the Kanturk–Mallow Municipal District and Cork County Council staff. The plan, launched on Monday, 20 April 2026, outlines clear objectives, priority projects and guiding principles.

Deputy Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Ian Doyle said:

"This plan was informed by extensive public consultation and survey work. It is ambitious but practical with achievable objectives, and I wish to acknowledge the collaboration with the Kanturk Town Team and the wider Kanturk community."

Moira Murrell, Chief Executive of Cork County Council, said:

"Cork County Council is progressing a broad programme of town regeneration across the county, including sustainable travel initiatives, property activation and public realm improvements. I hope that the Kanturk plan will act as a shared vision for all stakeholders and will support funding applications for the advancement of the projects and objectives identified within it."
