Cork County Council Launches New Heritage Podcast Series
Cork Chronicles podcast brings county's heritage to life: first episode on Titanic's Cobh connection out now.

Cork County Council has unveiled Cork Chronicles, a new podcast series that promises to bring the county's rich heritage to life through stories ranging from the Titanic's final farewell in Cobh to hidden local tales that have shaped Cork's cultural identity.
The podcast, hosted by Creative Ireland Heritage Specialist in Residence Shannon Forde, aims to capture the authentic voices and memories that define County Cork's heritage. Each episode features conversations with local historians, heritage groups, and residents who share their expertise and personal connections to Cork's past.
The series launches with a particularly poignant episode exploring Cobh's connection to the Titanic, featuring Dr Michael Martin of the Titanic Trail. This first episode is now available on both Acast and Spotify, with new episodes set to release every Friday from 5th September.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley:
"'Cork Chronicles' celebrates the stories, people, and places that define County Cork's heritage. Each episode will cover a different story that has impacted this County. The podcast uses the vast knowledge of local experts and community groups to educate the public. This podcast is a welcome resource for anyone who is interested in the history and heritage of County Cork."
Shannon Forde, Host:
"This podcast is about bringing Cork's history to life in a way that is accessible, engaging, and deeply rooted in community. By amplifying local voices and uncovering hidden stories, we hope to inspire greater connection and pride in our shared past."
The podcast promises to explore both the county's well-known historical moments and its lesser-known local stories, from living folklore traditions to community-led heritage initiatives. By drawing on the knowledge of local experts and community groups, Cork Chronicles aims to create an educational resource that resonates with anyone interested in Cork's history.
The timing couldn't be better for such an initiative, as communities across Cork continue to rediscover and celebrate their local heritage. The podcast format allows these stories to reach new audiences, particularly younger generations who might not otherwise engage with traditional heritage resources.
Listeners can follow the podcast's journey on Instagram at @corkchroniclespodcast for updates on upcoming episodes and behind-the-scenes content. With weekly episodes beginning next Friday, Cork Chronicles looks set to become essential listening for anyone with a love for Cork's stories, whether they're locals looking to deepen their knowledge or those further afield seeking to connect with the county's unique character.
