Cork County Council Launches Month-Long Climate Campaign
Cork County Council launches "Make One Change" climate campaign with free events throughout November at libraries across the county.
Cork County Council has unveiled its "Make One Change" campaign for November, inviting residents across the county to adopt simple lifestyle changes that can help tackle the climate crisis whilst building more sustainable communities.
The awareness initiative, which follows successful campaigns in 2022 and 2023, forms part of the Council's Climate Action Plan 2024-29. Throughout November, the county's library network will serve as the focal point for climate education, hosting a packed programme of free workshops, talks, presentations and competitions.
The campaign covers four core themes. Under Circular Economy, Shopping and Recycling, events will tackle consumption and waste reduction. Energy-focused activities will promote Home Energy Kits, which allow residents to test their consumption and identify where savings can be made, with support materials from Codema. Ecology, Biodiversity and Green Living events aim to reconnect communities with local ecosystems, offering access to Wildlife Mini Kits that explore Cork's native species. Finally, Climate Action, Travel and Community Safety sessions will highlight innovative solutions, including Ireland's first carbon neutral farm, alongside cycle and pedestrian safety talks.
The programme demonstrates how small changes across different areas, from fashion to farming, can contribute to sustainable living. One notable event sees Macroom Library hosting a "Rubbish Film Festival" on 19 November, screening short films on sustainability created by local Transition Year students.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley said:
"The 'Make One Change' campaign invites everyone in Cork County to engage with the library network and commit to a more sustainable lifestyle. By delivering a month of free-to-attend, public, climate action events, Cork County Council will promote and encourage the public to change behaviours and take positive local climate action."
All events throughout November are free to attend. The full schedule is available on the Cork County Council website at www.corkcoco.ie.
