Cork County Council Launches Library Development Programme 2026-2030

Cork County Council has launched its Library Development Programme 2026-2030, a five-year roadmap setting out its vision for the future of library services across the county.

Prepared in consultation with library staff and the public, the programme sits within the wider context of national and local strategies, including the national library strategy, The Library is the Place. It forms the basis for what the service aspires to be and how it will function in the community.

The programme aims to enhance access, inclusion, digital innovation and citizen engagement, ensuring libraries continue to play a central role in their communities. It reflects Cork County Council's commitment to delivering accessible, welcoming and future-focused library services for all residents, and builds on the strengths of the existing library network while responding to emerging and changing needs.

Proposals include modernising library spaces and services, with flexible physical spaces and expanded digital and online resources, developed with communities and the customer at their core.
