Cork County Council Launches Cost Rental Homes in Youghal
Cork County Council has launched a Cost Rental scheme in Youghal with 8 homes available; applications open 20 April.
Cork County Council has announced the launch of a Cost Rental scheme offering eight newly built family homes at Silverwood, Youghal, with applications opening on 20 April 2026.
The scheme is aimed at people who do not own a home, are above the threshold for social housing, but find private rented accommodation unaffordable. It provides secure, long-term tenancies at rents at least 26% below private market rates in the area, supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The development comprises six three-bedroomed mid and end of terrace houses and two four-bedroomed end of terrace houses. All homes are A-rated and located in a residential area with access to Blue Flag beaches, the coastal boardwalk, schools, and transport links via the N25.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley said:
"Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this Cost Rental Scheme in Youghal. This development represents a major step forward in providing secure, affordable rental options for individuals and families who are above the threshold for social housing but find private rents unaffordable. Silverwood is a fantastic location, combining coastal living with excellent connectivity, and this initiative reflects our ongoing progress in achieving the targets set by the government."
Applications will be accepted between 12 noon on 20 April 2026 and 12 noon on 5 May 2026 via the online application portal at www.corkcoco.ie. Homes will be allocated by lottery to eligible applicants who submit all required documentation, with successful renters entering a tenancy arrangement directly with Cork County Council.
Further details on eligibility criteria, application guidance, and required documentation are available on the council's website.
