Cork County Council Issues Warning About Third Party Flood Protection Operators in East Cork
No reimbursement available from the council.
Cork County Council has issued a warning after members of the public in East Cork were approached by third party operators offering to install flood protection equipment for upfront payment, with advice that costs can be reclaimed from the council.
The council has confirmed that these operators are not working on its behalf and there will be no avenue for reimbursement if homeowners make payments directly to them.
The warning comes as the legitimate Individual Property Protection (IPP) Scheme continues its rollout across the county. Under this official programme, property owners selected to receive flood barriers are contacted directly by contractors appointed by Cork County Council, and there is no cost to participating homeowners.
Cork County Council stated:
"These third parties are not working on behalf of the Council, and there will be no avenue for reimbursement through Cork County Council should payments be made directly to these operators."
The council has emphasised that property owners who are due to receive barriers through the IPP Scheme will be contacted by its appointed contractors.
Anyone with concerns about the IPP Scheme should contact Cork County Council by email at ipp@corkcoco.ie or by telephone on 021 4386619.
