Cork City Safety Partnership Seeks Community Representatives for Key Roles

The Cork City Local Community Safety Partnership is inviting expressions of interest from people with experience in community safety to join the Partnership, as it looks to fill three key representative roles.

The Partnership is currently seeking representatives in three areas: youth and family; domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV); and the justice system, including people who have experienced prison and their families, probation services, the Courts Service, and victims and victim support services.

Cllr Terry Shannon, Chair of the Safety Partnership, said:

"Community safety is about more than policing and enforcement. It is about ensuring that people are safe and feel safe in their communities, and that everyone can participate fully in community life without fear of harm or exclusion."

The Safety Partnership brings together local government, statutory agencies, community organisations, elected representatives and community members to work collaboratively on local safety priorities. As a statutory committee, it plays a key role in identifying community safety concerns, developing local solutions and coordinating actions across agencies and services.

The Partnership's vision is for "a safe city where every community has the right to live free from harm and fear and to participate fully in community life."

Community representatives appointed to the Partnership will help ensure lived experience and community perspectives are reflected in local decision-making. Members are expected to engage regularly with their communities, identify emerging issues and advocate for community needs.

Membership is a voluntary position. Members attend approximately six meetings a year and serve an initial three-year term, with the possibility of a second and final term. Meetings are generally held at Cork City Hall on Tuesdays at 4.30pm.
