Cork City Quays Face Localised Flooding as Storm Surge Coincides with High Tides
Cork City Council closing Wandesford Quay this evening and tomorrow morning due to expected tidal flooding on city centre quays during high tides.
Cork City Council will close Wandesford Quay this evening and again tomorrow morning as localised surface flooding is expected across several low-lying city centre quays during high tides.
This morning's high tide at 6.29am passed with localised surface flooding only on several low-lying quays. However, with scheduled high tides over the next 36 hours coinciding with a forecasted tidal storm surge, more extensive surface flooding is expected in the same areas.
High Tide Times:
- Tuesday 3rd February: 6.46pm
- Wednesday 4th February: 7.08am and 7.24pm
Areas Expecting Surface Water:
- Wandesford Quay
- Lavitts Quay
- Union Quay
- Kyrl's Quay
Cork City Council is closely monitoring the situation and has confirmed that no property damage is expected, with surface water only anticipated.
Wandesford Quay Road Closures:
- Tuesday evening: 5.45pm to 7.45pm
- Wednesday morning: 6am to 8am
Motorists are being advised to avoid parking on the quay during these periods. The localised flood events and associated road closures will impact traffic flow and public transport timetables.
Motorists and commuters are advised to expect delays and plan accordingly. The road closures and restrictions will be lifted quickly once each high tide passes.
Pedestrians are advised to exercise care in the affected areas during the high tide times, while motorists are urged to avoid parking in affected areas before high tide, drive with care, and allow extra time for potential diversions or delays.
