Cork City Launches Recruitment Drive for New Community Safety Wardens

Cork City Council has partnered with the Cork Business Association and An Garda Síochána to launch a recruitment campaign for City Centre Wardens as part of a new Community Safety Warden Scheme pilot programme.

The initiative, funded by the Cork Business Association in late 2024 with additional support from Cork City Council, will see four community wardens deployed across the city centre to enhance the experience for residents, workers and visitors alike.

The wardens will provide a welcoming and visible presence on Cork's streets, engaging with the public, supporting local businesses and helping to maintain a clean and safe environment throughout the city centre.

"This scheme is about putting people at the heart of the city's public spaces," said Dave O'Brien, President of Cork Business Association. "By working together with Cork City Council and An Garda Síochána, we're aiming to create a more engaging and supportive experience for everyone in the city centre, and make Cork City the safest and cleanest city."

The Community Safety Warden roles, available as both full-time and part-time positions, will involve monitoring designated areas to support public safety and environmental standards, providing assistance and information to citizens and visitors, and reporting issues such as litter, graffiti and anti-social behaviour.

Wardens will also support local events, enhance the day-to-day urban experience and liaise with state agencies, Gardaí and businesses across the city centre.

Cork City Council is seeking outgoing and engaging candidates who are community-minded with strong communication skills. Good knowledge of Cork City is essential, whilst previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial but is not required.

Successful candidates will be employed by Cork City Council and receive support from the Council, Cork Business Association and An Garda Síochána.

Applications must be submitted through the Cork City Council Careers Portal by Thursday, 30th May 2025.
