Cork City FC Honours Legendary Chipper With Special Edition Jersey

Cork City FC has launched a commemorative jersey paying tribute to Jackie Lennox's, the beloved chip shop that closed its Bandon Road doors exactly one year ago today after 73 years serving the city.

The limited edition white jersey, available from the club shop in Douglas from today, features a retro Cork City FC crest from the early 1990s alongside the iconic Lennox's logo across the front. Created by the club's own Rebel Army Clothing brand, the jersey celebrates a Cork institution that became part of the city's cultural fabric over seven decades.

When Jackie Lennox's closed on 6th October 2024, it marked the end of an era. Corkonian queued for hours to secure one last feed from the legendary chipper, with the closure making headlines across the county. The outpouring of affection demonstrated just how deeply the business was woven into Cork life.

The collaboration between Cork City FC and the Lennox family brings together two institutions that have long been part of the city's identity. Supporters got their first glimpse of the jersey at a special event in Sober Lane ahead of the FAI Cup Semi-Final against St. Pat's.

"Cork City FC always supported Lennox's and we were thrilled when they asked us to collaborate on this special edition jersey. It is very heartening to know that the people of Cork still hold a special place for Lennox's a year after we closed our Bandon Road premises. It brings us great joy to see the Lennox logo on this new jersey and I hope it is well received by the club's supporters."

"It is a great honour for us as a club to collaborate with such an iconic Cork institution. We, like so many Cork people, were very sad to see it close this time last year and we wanted to pay a special tribute to Lennox's for everything they've done over the years, both for Cork City FC and also for Cork as a whole."

The jersey is available for a limited time only at €50 from the Cork City FC shop in Douglas.
