Cork City Council Upgrades Live-Streaming of Monthly Meetings with Multi-Camera System
Cork City Council launches upgraded live-streaming for monthly meetings from Monday with multi-camera setup and speaker info.
Cork City Council is rolling out a new live-streaming platform for its monthly meetings, featuring multiple camera angles, on-screen speaker information and improved accessibility. The upgraded system launches on Monday, 10 November, with meetings moving from YouTube to a dedicated platform designed to enhance public engagement with council proceedings.
The enhanced streaming system will debut at Monday's monthly council meeting, marking the first phase of improvements planned over the coming months. The new setup will use several cameras offering different views of the council chamber and individual speakers, whilst displaying on-screen information showing speaker names and the agenda items under discussion.
The upgrade reflects the council's commitment to openness and transparency, according to the announcement. By improving the technical quality and user experience of broadcasts, the council aims to make its proceedings more accessible to Cork residents who follow debates and decisions affecting their communities.
The council has emphasised that digital accessibility is essential for inclusive civic participation, particularly for those unable to attend meetings in person due to mobility issues, scheduling conflicts or geographic distance. The improvements are designed to ensure everyone can engage with local democracy, regardless of their circumstances.
From Monday, council meetings will no longer appear on the council's YouTube channel. Instead, viewers should visit the new dedicated platform to watch proceedings live. Monday's meeting begins at 5pm.
Cork City Council first introduced live-streaming of its monthly meetings in 2020 in response to COVID-19 restrictions, a practice that has continued as audiences have grown accustomed to following council business remotely. The new system builds on five years of digital broadcasting experience, bringing the technical infrastructure up to modern standards.
