Cork City Council Seeks Public Input to Name Two New City Centre Bridges

Cork City Council has launched a public consultation inviting residents to suggest names for two new pedestrian and cycle bridges connecting key areas of the city centre, with submissions accepted until 26 January 2026.

The first bridge, recently opened, connects Wandesford Quay via Lambley's Lane to South Main Street. The second bridge is currently under construction, linking Proby's Quay to South Main Street through the former Beamish and Crawford Brewery site, with completion expected in spring 2026.

Both bridges are designed to improve pedestrian and cycle connectivity across the city and are funded by the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund and the National Transport Authority.

Following the same process used to name the Mary Elmes Bridge in 2019 and Vernon Mount Bridge in 2023, Cork City Council is asking the public to put forward suggestions that honour, celebrate, or remember a person, group, or events of significance that have helped shape Cork City.

Submissions will be accepted until 4pm on Monday, 26 January 2026. After this deadline, suggestions will be shortlisted and brought to a meeting of Full Council, where Elected Members will discuss the options and vote to choose the final names.

Members of the public can make their suggestions online using Cork City Council's consultation portal. Alternatively, they can download the application form from the website and send it in an envelope marked "Lambley's Lane Bridge Naming" or "Proby's Quay/Crosses Green Bridge Naming" to Barbara Creed, Administrative Officer, Infrastructure Development, City Hall, Cork, T12 T997, or email directly to barbara_creed@corkcity.ie.
