Cork City Council Secures Almost €500,000 for Community Infrastructure Projects
Cork City Council secures €496,742 for community projects in Blarney, Kerry Pike, Tower and Upper Glanmire under Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
Cork City Council has welcomed the announcement of €496,742 in funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development to tackle dereliction and improve facilities in rural towns and villages across the northern edge of the city.
The funding has been allocated through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS), which has supported significant infrastructure developments in communities since 2019.
Four projects across Blarney, Kerry Pike, Tower and Upper Glanmire will benefit from the investment, with works ranging from upgraded sports facilities to new playground equipment and improved community centre amenities.
In Blarney, €135,500 will fund the upgrading and tarmacking of the carpark at O'Shea Park, home to Blarney FC. The works will include a new carpark surface, drainage improvements, lining and public lighting.
Kerry Pike will receive €159,352 to complete tarmacking of carparks at Ballycannon Park and Community Centre, install fencing and lighting for the ball wall and tennis court, and purchase a lawnmower for grounds maintenance.
Tower has secured €121,050 to upgrade and extend its playground facilities, creating a safe play area for children aged between six and 12 years who currently lack suitable facilities.
Upper Glanmire will benefit from €81,340 for upgrades to its community centre, including installation of a bathroom for people with disabilities, radiator improvements and landscaping work on surrounding green areas.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Fergal Dennehy, welcomed the funding announcement:
"All applications were prepared in partnership with local community groups and the City Council is looking forward to working with all stakeholders in the rollout of the projects. All are very positive developments for Blarney, Kerrypike, Upper Glanmire and Tower and will further improve amenities and infrastructure for their communities, whilst connecting to the City Council's broader implementation of its Climate Action Plan, Parks and Recreation and Cork Healthy Cities programmes."
