Cork City Council Reminds Residents of Free Salt Scheme as Gritting Efforts Continue

Council teams have been working to keep the city's road network safe during the recent cold snap, with salt now available for community groups to treat their own areas.

Cork City Council has confirmed that its crews have been busy over the past number of days treating roads along defined priority routes to minimise the risk of icy conditions for motorists.

Bridges, particularly in the city centre, have also received attention, along with footpaths in areas with the highest pedestrian footfall.

However, the Council is reminding residents that not all roads and paths can be treated by its teams. To help fill the gaps, salt is available free of charge to community groups and residents' associations who wish to manage untreated areas in their localities during icy weather.

Those interested in availing of the scheme can apply online through this website.

With temperatures expected to remain low in the coming days, residents are advised to take care on untreated surfaces, particularly during early morning and evening hours when frost is most likely to form.
