Christmas has officially started arriving on Cork’s streets, with Cork City Council crews working through the night to put up the first 10 of more than 40 Christmas trees planned for the city.

The council shared the news on Instagram, giving people a behind-the-scenes look at the overnight operation, complete with cranes, chainsaws and one very important four-legged supervisor.

Cork City Council said:

“Christmas is coming to town! Overnight, our crews were hard at work erecting the first 10 Christmas trees ahead of the festive season.”

The work is far from finished. According to the council, crews will be busy over the next few days putting up 40-plus Christmas trees across the city, so anyone heading into town in the coming days can expect the festive transformation to keep spreading.

Speaking to Cork Safety Alerts, Cork City Council confirmed the crews’ work is continuing, saying: “They will be out again today.”

Video stills from the council’s footage show trees going up on Patrick Street, outside Dunnes Stores, and beside the National Monument on the Grand Parade, with crews in hi-vis working under floodlights while most of Cork slept.

The night shift also had a special visitor. Cork City Council said:

“Santa’s little helper, Daisy, also popped by this evening to check in on the crews and see how preparations are coming along!”

Judging by the stills, Daisy took her inspection duties very seriously indeed. With the first trees in place and dozens more on the way, it seems Cork’s countdown to Christmas is well and truly under way, whether we’re ready for it or not.
