Cork City Centre to Get 147-Unit Apartment Scheme at Anglesea Terrace
147 apartments planned for Anglesea Terrace city centre site. Have your say on the plans until 24 November.
Cork City Council has unveiled plans for a major apartment development in the city centre, marking the first direct partnership between the local authority and the Land Development Agency.
The proposed 147-unit scheme at Anglesea Terrace will transform a 0.45-hectare site bounded by Old Station Road, the South Link Road, Anglesea Terrace and St. Joachim and Anne's church. The development will include buildings ranging from two storeys to 16 storeys in height.
Part 8 planning documents published today show the scheme comprises 72 one-bedroom apartments and 75 two-bedroom units. The development will also include one café or restaurant unit and two office or retail spaces.
The site, currently occupied by four buildings, a car park and boundary walls, will be completely cleared to make way for the new development. Residents will have access to communal open spaces including an external courtyard, a linear western park and a rooftop terrace on the seventh floor.
Brian Geaney, assistant chief executive of Cork City Council:
"This is the first direct partnership between the city council and the LDA. It is another demonstration of the city council's commitment to delivering quality housing, especially in strategic city centre locations in line with its vision to encourage sustainable urban living, and we look forward to working with the LDA on the project to deliver the new homes as quickly as possible."
The plans also include footpath upgrades along Old Station Road, a new pedestrian link with footpath along the South Link Road, and a delivery set-down area at Anglesea Terrace. Bicycle parking, public lighting and landscaping will be provided as part of the ancillary works.

Public consultation runs from today, Friday 24 October, until Monday 24 November 2025. The documents can be viewed online at consult.corkcity.ie or at City Hall between 10am and 4pm on weekdays by appointment. Copies can be purchased by contacting 021-492 5518.
Submissions and observations must be made electronically through the consultation portal or in writing to the Programme Manager, Housing Delivery & Regeneration at City Hall. The deadline for submissions is 4pm on Monday 8 December 2025.
A report analysing submissions will be prepared for city councillors in early 2026.
The Anglesea Terrace project joins a significant pipeline of housing developments with council involvement. These include the Railyard apartments on the former Sextant site where groundworks are underway, the Creamfields scheme on Tramore Road where site clearance has started, and a recently approved LDA project at the ESB site in Wilton. Together, these projects will deliver over 1,170 cost-rental, affordable or social housing units.
Construction continues on the first phase of Glenveagh's Marina Quarter project in the south docklands near Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, where the LDA will deliver 337 cost-rental and social homes. Work is also nearly complete on approximately 300 cost-rental apartments on Horgan's Quay.
