The Cork Business Association is calling on locals to roll up their sleeves for a community clean-up of Oliver Plunkett Street on Tuesday 24th June, following the success of their inaugural "Cleaning and Greening" initiative on North Main Street.

The volunteer effort will transform the popular city centre street from Vodafone to The Welcome Inn, with tasks including cleaning, planting, and painting scheduled throughout the morning. Volunteers are invited to gather at The Old Oak Bar at 9am, where light refreshments will be provided before work begins.

The initiative represents part of a broader Cork Business Association campaign to enhance the city's streetscapes one thoroughfare at a time, fostering civic pride whilst supporting Cork's reputation as a welcoming destination for residents, workers, and visitors alike.

McKechnie Cleaning Services will return as a key supporter, providing professional equipment including power washers, window cleaners, and industrial sweepers. The CBA will supply volunteers with gloves, brushes, litter pickers, and paint to ensure the morning delivers professional results.

Dave O'Brien, President of Cork Business Association:

"This is about more than just a tidy-up: it's about business owners and locals taking pride in our shared spaces. Our first event showed what a difference one morning of focused action can make. We're looking forward to building on that momentum on Oliver Plunkett Street."

The collaborative effort between the CBA and Cork City Council aims to create a cleaner, safer, and more attractive city centre. Each street undergoes a visual audit to identify priority areas, from accumulated dirt and debris to outdated signage and neglected infrastructure.

Volunteers will be rewarded for their efforts with lunch at 12:30pm, generously provided by Market Lane restaurant.

Businesses and individuals interested in participating can register at corkbusiness.ie or by emailing info@corkbusiness.ie.
