Cork Airport welcomed a new chapter in its winter schedule on Saturday as Aer Lingus launched its inaugural direct service to Geneva, opening up the Swiss Alps to passengers from the South of Ireland.

Flight EI852 departed shortly after 13:15 on 20 December, with passengers on the first flight receiving specially branded Christmas baubles and Swiss chocolates to mark the occasion. The new route will operate every Saturday until 6 March 2026.

Geneva serves as a gateway to some of Europe's most renowned ski resorts, including Chamonix, Verbier and Zermatt, all within convenient transfer distance from the airport. The city itself, situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, is home to international institutions including the United Nations and the International Red Cross.

The new Swiss connection complements Cork Airport's existing winter sports routes to Lyon, Munich and Salzburg, and follows the launch of a year-round Prague service in October.

Tara Finn, Head of Aviation Business Development and Communications at Cork Airport, said:

"The ski holiday market is growing and growing each year, and I'm thrilled to welcome Geneva as the newest addition to serve that market. The new route complements our existing services to Lyon, Munich and Salzburg. It's the second of Aer Lingus new routes this winter, with the new year-round service to Prague proving very popular indeed!"

Susanne Carberry, Chief Customer Officer at Aer Lingus, said:

"We're delighted to launch a new winter service to Geneva, expanding our network and giving customers even more choice for seasonal adventures. Whether it's chasing fresh snow in the Alps or seeking a charming city escape, this new route from Cork offers customers a convenient connection to one of Europe's most charming destinations."

Cork Airport, recently named Best Regional Airport in Europe by Airport Council International, welcomed 3.1 million passengers in 2024 and is forecasting growth to over 3.4 million in 2025.
