Cork Airport Gears Up for Bumper May Bank Holiday Weekend
Cork Airport expects 61,500 passengers this May Bank Holiday weekend as summer routes launch, including a new twice-weekly Aer Lingus service to Nice from Saturday.
Cork Airport is preparing to welcome 61,500 passengers this May Bank Holiday weekend, as the summer schedule kicks into full swing and a brand new route takes to the skies.
Friday, 1 May will be the busiest day of the weekend for both arrivals and departures. Passengers are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before their flight is due to depart and are strongly encouraged to prebook car parking in advance to secure a space and avail of the best rates at corkairport.com.
This Saturday, 2 May, Cork Airport's newest route launches as Aer Lingus begins a twice-weekly service to Nice on the French Riviera, operating every Wednesday and Saturday. Cork Airport will also offer direct connections to five French destinations this summer: Paris Charles de Gaulle (Air France), Paris Beauvais (Ryanair), La Rochelle (Ryanair), Carcassonne (Ryanair), and Bordeaux (Aer Lingus). The Aer Lingus service to Bilbao has also resumed for the summer season, flying three times weekly.
Other seasonal services resuming this month include Alghero/Sardinia (Ryanair), Bordeaux (Aer Lingus), Palma de Mallorca (Aer Lingus), Rhodes (Ryanair), and Zadar (Ryanair), with the timing well placed to catch the post-primary school holiday surge in late May.
Adding to the airport's busy weekend, hundreds of chorists and performing artists are expected to touch down ahead of the Cork International Choral Festival, which runs from 29 April to 3 May. Now in its 71st year, the festival draws over 5,000 performers from Ireland and abroad across 90 venues citywide.
Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport, said:
"As the May Bank Holiday weekend approaches, summer is now in full swing at Cork Airport. It's great to see our airport so busy and the capital programme now underway will provide the airport infrastructure for the next ten years of growth.
Ahead of a busy bank holiday weekend, we recommend passenger [sic] to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their flight and most importantly, to prebook their carparking online on corkairport.com where the best value and rates can be found across all three of our car parks."
