Cork Airport Braces for Bumper Easter Weekend as Summer Schedule Takes Flight

Cork Airport is expecting over 65,000 passengers to pass through its doors over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, with Good Friday, 3 April, set to be the busiest day for both arrivals and departures.

The airport's 2026 Summer Schedule got under way last weekend, and the Easter period marks its first major test, with strong demand expected across both outbound and inbound travel. Many passengers are set to swap Ireland's recent dull, wet weather for warmer destinations, with Alicante, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Valencia, Malaga and Faro among the most popular choices. City break routes to Paris, Barcelona and Seville are also performing strongly.

A significant influx of visitors from the UK is expected over the weekend, with both Good Friday and Easter Monday recognised as public holidays there. Seasonal services to Alghero, Bilbao, Girona, Milan Bergamo, Palma de Mallorca, Pisa and Reus have all resumed for summer, while Lufthansa, SWISS International Air Lines and SunExpress have returned with their popular routes to Frankfurt, Zurich and Izmir respectively.

This summer brings a notable boost in long-haul connectivity, with Lufthansa increasing its Cork to Frankfurt service to up to six flights per week. The additional frequency strengthens onward connections through one of Europe's major aviation hubs and supports inbound tourism from Germany, Ireland's third-largest source market for overseas visitors.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport, said:

"Easter is always a great kick-off to our busy season at Cork Airport, and it's fantastic to see so many people choosing to fly with us again this year. We're expecting a lively weekend, with strong demand for sunshine breaks and a big wave of visitors coming in from the UK. Our summer schedule is now up and running, and there's a brilliant mix of destinations on offer from Cork.

We're progressing well on our Capital Development Programme and despite the significant works on the construction of a new mezzanine floor, the passenger experience from Cork Airport is still as friendly and easy as ever. We encourage passengers this weekend to arrive 90 minutes before flight departure time given the increased traffic with Easter season."
