Collision on N40 Eastbound
Long delays as a result. Take care on approach.

- Traffic is severely disrupted on the N40 eastbound this morning following a multi-vehicle collision between Junction 4 Sarsfield Road and Junction 5 Togher, with lane 3 currently blocked.
The collision was reported at 08:57 this morning, 2 September 2025, and is causing significant delays for commuters heading eastbound through this busy section of Cork's ring road.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed that lane 3 is affected by the incident, reducing capacity on one of Cork's busiest traffic corridors during the morning rush hour. Emergency services are currently at the scene managing the situation.

Motorists are being advised to expect substantial delays to their journey times and should consider alternative routes where possible. Those who must use the N40 eastbound are urged to approach the collision location with extreme caution, reduce speed, and follow all instructions from emergency services on site.
The stretch between Sarsfield Road and Togher is a critical section of the N40, connecting western suburbs with the city's southern approaches. With one lane blocked, traffic is likely to remain heavy until the vehicles are cleared and normal flow resumes.
Drivers heading towards the city centre or southern suburbs may wish to consider using alternative routes via the city or delaying non-essential journeys until the incident is cleared.
Updates will follow as more information becomes available from emergency services at the scene.
