Crosshaven and Guileen Coast Guard crews worked together this afternoon to safely recover a 5.5-metre rigid inflatable boat that ran aground on rocks at Trabolgan.

The rescue operation began at 1pm when Crosshaven Coast Guard received a tasking to reports of a vessel in difficulty. Their boat crew responded immediately to the scene near the popular East Cork holiday destination.

Upon arrival, the Crosshaven team found that Guileen Coast Guard had already secured the grounded RIB and made it safe. The Crosshaven crew then established a stern tow line and successfully brought the vessel back to Crosshaven harbour without further incident.

The coordinated response highlighted the effective teamwork between the two volunteer Coast Guard units, both of which serve the busy waters around Cork Harbour and the East Cork coast.

Crosshaven Coast Guard is now seeking to identify the owner of the recovered RIB. Anyone with information about the vessel is asked to contact the unit directly.

The Irish Coast Guard reminds the public that anyone who sees someone in difficulty on or near water should immediately dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard.

Both Crosshaven and Guileen Coast Guard stations rely entirely on volunteers who provide round-the-clock maritime rescue coverage for the Cork coast.
