City Centre Road Closures Tonight as Cork Braces for High Tide Flooding
⚠ Flood Warning: Cork City Council closes Wandesford Quay from 5pm-7pm tonight with surface water expected on city quays due to tidal storm surge at high tide.
Cork City Council has announced road closures and lane restrictions ahead of this evening's high tide, with surface water expected on several low-lying city centre quays as a tidal storm surge coincides with scheduled high tides.
Wandesford Quay will be closed between 5pm and 7pm tonight (Monday 2 February), while lane restrictions will be in place on Lavitts Quay during the same period.
The closures follow this morning's assessment by council officials, who are predicting surface water around the following high tide times:
- Monday 2 February at 6:04pm
- Tuesday 3 February at 6:29am and 6:46pm
Surface water is expected in the following areas:
- Wandesford Quay
- Lavitts Quay
- Union Quay
- Kyrl's Quay
Cork City Council will have crews stationed in the city centre to respond as required during the high tide periods.
The road closures and restrictions are likely to cause traffic delays and will disrupt some bus routes and timetables this evening. All restrictions are expected to be lifted by 7pm.
Pedestrians are advised to exercise care in the affected areas during the high tide times, particularly around the quays.
Motorists should avoid parking in the affected areas before high tide, drive with care through the city centre, and allow extra time for potential diversions or delays.
