Burst Water Main Causes Overnight Disruption on Bandon Road
Burst water main on the N71 Bandon Road: overnight repairs under way, supply disruptions expected in Ardrostig and Bishopstown. Water tanker at Ardrostig Lane.
Uisce Éireann crews are working through the night to repair a significant burst water main on the N71, Bandon Road, Co Cork, with customers in Bishopstown and surrounding areas warned to expect supply disruptions.
The burst occurred on Wednesday evening, 18 March, and repair works are under way with a traffic management plan in place on the N71 from 8pm this evening, Thursday, 19 March. Works are estimated to be completed by 4am on Friday, 20 March.
Customers in Ardrostig, Bishopstown and surrounding areas may experience disruptions to their water supply during the repair works. Uisce Éireann has advised that it typically takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored, though customers at the end of the network or on higher ground may wait longer as the system recharges.
A water tanker has been made available at Ardrostig Lane to support affected customers. Residents are asked to bring their own containers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
Michael Bell, Water Network Operations Manager at Uisce Éireann, said:
"Due to the nature of this burst and its location, a traffic management plan had to be agreed with the relevant authorities to prioritise the safety of the repair crew, road users, and the general public. Repair works are due to be completed by 4am; however, it may take a number of hours for water pressure to return to normal at higher elevations."
Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann will receive direct communications for unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
