Met Éireann issued the forecast at 06:00 this morning, warning of changing conditions throughout Thursday and into the weekend.
Today will begin dry and bright for many areas across Cork, with sunny spells and isolated showers. However, cloud will increase through the afternoon as widespread showers move eastwards across the county. These showers will turn heavy at times with a chance of hail.
Temperatures will reach highs of 6 to 9 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds, though winds will be fresher along Atlantic coasts.
Tonight, showers will ease early on with clear spells developing temporarily. Cloud will thicken from the southwest later with rain and drizzle following. Temperatures will drop to between 1 and 6 degrees, staying mildest along Atlantic coasts. Southerly winds will increase to moderate to fresh through the night.
Friday will bring a wet and blustery day to Cork with rain becoming widespread and turning heavy at times. Southeasterly winds will increase to strong and gusty levels with gales at times on exposed coasts.
Scattered showers and some brighter spells will follow from the southwest through Friday afternoon and evening as winds ease to moderate to fresh southwesterly. Some showers will be heavy. Temperatures will reach 10 to 12 degrees.
The weekend outlook remains changeable with spells of rain, showers and some dry intervals, while conditions turn milder. Saturday will be breezy with scattered showers in the morning, easing in the afternoon with more sunny spells. Temperatures will range from 9 to 11 degrees.
Sunday will see outbreaks of rain and drizzle largely clear northeastwards through the morning, leaving a mostly dry afternoon with sunny spells and temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.
The extended outlook suggests unsettled conditions will continue with further spells of rain, showers and blustery conditions likely.
