Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice affecting approximately 287 customers supplied by the Kilmagnier Public Water Supply Scheme in North Cork. The notice, issued on Friday, 05 December 2025 following consultation with the HSE, is due to increased turbidity impacting the treatment process at the Kilmagnier Water Treatment Plant.

Customers can check if their property is affected by visiting www.water.ie and entering their Eircode, or by calling the 24/7 customer care helpline on 1800 278 278. A map of the affected area is available on the supply and service section of water.ie.

All consumers affected by this notice must boil their water before drinking.

Niall O'Riordan, Uisce Éireann, said:

"We regret any inconvenience caused for impacted customers. Public health is Uisce Éireann's number one priority and we would like to assure customers that the notice has been put in place to protect public health. We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses and would like to assure customers that we are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and as safely possible."

Water must be boiled for drinking, making drinks, preparing uncooked foods such as salads, brushing teeth, and making ice. Customers should discard existing ice cubes and filtered water in fridges. Water can be used for personal hygiene, bathing, and flushing toilets, but not for brushing teeth or gargling. Caution should be taken when bathing children to ensure they do not swallow the water.

For infant formula preparation, tap water should be boiled once at a rolling boil for one minute and cooled beforehand. Bottled water can also be used but should likewise be boiled once and cooled. Ready-to-use formula that does not need added water can also be used.

Customers are reminded to take great care with boiled water to avoid burns and scalds, especially with children.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communication on Boil Water Notices.
