Bantry Water Supply: Overnight Restrictions Begin Tonight to Protect Daytime Service

Uisce Éireann has announced overnight water restrictions for the Cahernacrin area of Bantry, starting tonight (2 July) and continuing until Monday, 7 July, as the utility works to maintain reliable daytime supply following a period of high demand.

The restrictions will run from 10pm to 7am each night, affecting customers in Bantry town, Newstown, Slip, Milleenacoola, Ballylicky, Snave, Coomhola and surrounding areas. During these hours, residents may experience supply interruptions, water discolouration, or reduced pressure.

Customers are advised to allow three to four hours after the 7am restoration time for supply to fully return to normal. Some short-term discolouration may occur as water returns through the network following the overnight restrictions.

Niall O'Riordan, Uisce Éireann Operations Manager:

"These restrictions are required to allow the overall supply replenish following a period of high demand. We are doing everything we can to protect and maintain supplies as we go through the summer, but we're also asking for Bantry/Cahernacrin customers to help by doing what they can to reduce their use. If everyone in the area takes a few simple steps to reduce the volume used around their homes, businesses, and gardens, we can make our water go further and help maintain normal supplies."

The utility has highlighted several practical conservation measures residents can adopt, including using watering cans instead of hoses in gardens, fixing dripping taps and running overflows, taking shorter showers rather than baths, and ensuring dishwashers and washing machines are fully loaded before use. Businesses and farms are encouraged to conduct water audits and implement water-saving practices specific to their operations.

Uisce Éireann has launched a free text alert service for real-time updates on local water issues. Customers can register with their Eircode and mobile number at www.water.ie. The utility's conservation calculator, available at www.water.ie/conserve, helps households measure their current water usage and identify additional savings opportunities.

For updates and queries, customers can contact Uisce Éireann's 24/7 helpline on 1800 278 278 or follow @IWCare on X (formerly Twitter).
