Bandon Water Supply Upgraded as Uisce Éireann Completes Major Pipeline Replacement

Over 500 metres of ageing water mains on Dunmanway Road have been replaced with new pipes, delivering a more reliable and sustainable water supply to homes and businesses across Bandon.

The upgrade works, completed today by Uisce Éireann, represent a significant investment in west Cork's water infrastructure. Ward and Burke Construction Ltd carried out the replacement programme, which forms part of the national Leakage Reduction Programme designed to eliminate water waste across Ireland.

The project addresses long-standing issues with the area's water supply, replacing deteriorating pipes that were allowing clean drinking water to leak into the ground. The new infrastructure will provide Bandon residents and businesses with improved water pressure and reliability.

Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann:

"We are delighted to have completed these works that are now benefitting homes and businesses in Bandon. By replacing these old water mains, we will ensure a more sustainable water supply, eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground protecting our most precious resource. I would like to thank the community for their patience and support while the works were being completed."

The Dunmanway Road upgrade is part of Uisce Éireann's broader strategy to modernise Ireland's water network. The national programme continues to deliver improvements in water quality, supply resilience and environmental protection across communities nationwide.

Local residents who experienced disruptions during the construction phase can now expect consistent water supply with improved pressure. The eliminated leaks will also contribute to conservation efforts, ensuring precious water resources are preserved rather than lost underground.

Uisce Éireann operates a free text alert service providing real-time updates on local water issues. Customers can register using their Eircode and mobile number to receive notifications about planned works or supply interruptions.

The utility company encourages members of the public to report any leaks in the public water network by calling 1800 278 278 or through their online reporting system. More information about the Leakage Reduction Programme is available on their website.

This infrastructure investment underscores Uisce Éireann's commitment to providing safe, reliable drinking water while protecting Ireland's natural water resources for future generations.
