Bandon Water Network Upgrade to Tackle Leakage Issues
Bandon's Dunmanway Road set for water main replacement from next week. Works continue to September, improving supply reliability.

Uisce Éireann is set to begin major infrastructure works next week on Bandon's Dunmanway Road, replacing over 500 metres of aged water mains in a bid to significantly reduce water loss and improve supply reliability for the west Cork town.
The essential upgrade forms part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme and will see contractors working along the R586 from early August through to September 2025. The project aims to eliminate existing leaks, reduce burst incidents, and provide residents with a more secure water supply.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann:
"Replacing these old and damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground. The works will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged watermains, resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of residents. We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works."
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd will carry out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with traffic management measures including a stop/go system and temporary traffic lights to ensure safe working conditions. Local and emergency access will be maintained throughout the project.
The ageing water infrastructure in the area has been prone to frequent bursts, causing disruption to homes and businesses. This investment represents a significant improvement for Bandon, where reliable water supply is crucial for both residents and the town's thriving commercial sector.
The project is part of Uisce Éireann's broader national initiative to modernise Ireland's water infrastructure. The Leakage Reduction Programme has already delivered substantial water savings across the country, while improving water quality and creating more resilient supply networks for communities.
Residents experiencing any issues or noticing leaks in the public water network can report them to Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 or through their online reporting system at www.water.ie.
