Baltimore Water Network Upgrade to Begin Next Week
Baltimore water mains upgrade starts next week on Beacon Road; 300m of pipes to be replaced by December.
Uisce Éireann will commence essential water infrastructure works along Beacon Road in Baltimore next week, replacing nearly 300 metres of ageing cast iron water mains to significantly reduce leakage and improve supply reliability for the West Cork village.
The upgrade forms part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme and will address persistent issues with bursts and outages that have affected the local network. The replacement of the old cast iron pipes is expected to eliminate existing leaks and prevent clean drinking water from being lost into the ground.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said:
"These works will see a significant reduction in the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground. The works will also improve the operation of the network by reducing the need for frequent repairs to aged water mains, resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of residents. We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works."
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd will carry out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project scheduled for completion in December 2025. To facilitate safe and efficient delivery of the project, traffic management will be implemented through localised access restrictions along Beacon Road, though local and emergency access will be maintained throughout.
The Baltimore project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann's wider national programme to reduce water leakage across Ireland's network. The programme aims to improve water quality, provide more resilient and sustainable water supplies, and achieve considerable water savings for communities nationwide.
Residents can report any leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 or through their online reporting system. The utility also offers a free text alert service for real-time updates on local water issues, which customers can access by registering their Eircode and mobile number online.
