August 2025 has been confirmed as the fourth warmest August in Ireland's 126-year weather records, with temperatures reaching 1.56°C above the long-term average, according to Met Éireann's latest monthly climate statement.

The national meteorological service reported an average temperature of 16.83°C for the month, making it not only the fourth warmest August but the ninth warmest month of any kind since records began. Despite these impressive figures, August 2025 still fell short of the record-breaking August 1995, which recorded an average of 17.75°C.

The warm conditions were driven by heat over central and western Europe that continued during August, with some of that pushing north over Ireland during the second week of the month. Several weather stations recorded temperatures reaching up to 28°C during this period.

Rainfall levels were below average in most places across the country, whilst eastern parts of Ireland enjoyed the best of the sunshine during the month.

August wasn't without its stormy moments, however. Storm Floris brought gales and strong gales on Monday, 4 August, providing a stark contrast to the generally warm conditions.

The temperature data places August 2025 amongst a growing list of exceptionally warm months in Ireland's recent meteorological history. Met Éireann's complete monthly climate statement provides detailed breakdowns of temperature, rainfall, and sunshine data from weather stations across the country.
