ASOS Investigating After App Users Receive Notification Claiming Hack

ASOS has said it is aware of a notification sent to app users claiming the retailer has been hacked, and that it is investigating. The statement does not confirm whether a hack took place or whether any data was accessed.

According to LBC, the notification arrived shortly before 10am on Tuesday 6 October. LADbible reports that it was headed "ASOS HACKED" and was addressed to the company's data protection and IT teams.

The message reportedly read:

"Dear Asos DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it." Snowflake is a cloud data platform used by many businesses. Dexerto reports that the notification does not say what, if anything, was accessed.

ASOS said in a statement quoted by LADbible:

"We’re aware of the notification and are currently investigating. We don't have any further information to share at this stage, but we'll provide an update as soon as we know more."

Brit Brief reports that the message appears to have reached customers in more than one country. Cork Safety Alerts has not found a confirmed report from an Irish customer, and ASOS has not said whether customers in Ireland are affected.

Cedar News reports that customers are being advised not to click links in the notification and to wait for official guidance from ASOS. NordVPN's Chief Technology Officer, Marijus Briedis, told LADbible that customers should watch for phishing emails and texts that use the incident as cover, and should go directly to the ASOS app or website rather than clicking links in unexpected messages.

This is a developing story. Cork Safety Alerts checked for updates at 13:33 IST and will update this article if ASOS issues further information.
