Cork Airport begins €200m transformation: new mezzanine with C3 security tech, body scanners, fast-track lanes, plus future duty-free, lounge and solar farm!

Cork Airport is launching its most significant capital investment programme in almost a quarter of a century, beginning construction on a revolutionary mezzanine floor that will transform the passenger experience with cutting-edge security technology.
The ambitious first phase of daa Group's €200 million investment represents a "new era" for the airport, featuring a brand-new mezzanine floor designed to house an entirely redesigned passenger security screening area.

The facility will showcase the newest security technology, including advanced C3 EDS scanners that allow passengers to keep liquids and electronic items in their carry-on luggage throughout the screening process. This represents a significant departure from current security protocols and promises to streamline the travel experience considerably.
Additional security enhancements include new body scanners and a dedicated fast-track security lane, alongside an entirely new and refreshed arrivals area. The comprehensive upgrades aim to transform one of the most time-consuming aspects of air travel into an efficient, stress-free experience.
Cork-based construction company PJ Hegarty will undertake the development works, bringing local expertise to this landmark project.
However, the security improvements represent just the beginning of Cork Airport's transformation vision. The comprehensive development programme includes ambitious plans for the coming years that will reshape the entire facility.
Future phases will deliver a new duty-free shop offering expanded retail options, a new executive lounge providing enhanced comfort for premium passengers, and the installation of a new airbridge to improve aircraft connectivity.
Infrastructure expansion will include extra boarding gates to accommodate increased capacity, extensions to the long-term car park addressing growing demand, and the construction of a substantial 1.7MW solar farm demonstrating the airport's commitment to sustainable operations.
The phased development approach ensures continued operations whilst delivering transformational improvements. Airport officials emphasise that the investment programme positions Cork Airport for future growth whilst maintaining service quality during construction.
The solar farm installation highlights Cork Airport's environmental focus, representing a significant renewable energy commitment that will contribute to operational sustainability.
Construction teams will implement the ambitious programme whilst minimising passenger disruption, reflecting careful planning and project management expertise.
The transformation programme aims to create "an airport to be even more proud of," establishing new standards for passenger facilities and operational efficiency.
