Arrests Made After Cork City Centre Gathering Involving HGVs and Tractors
Five people arrested after a public gathering involving HGVs and tractors at Grand Parade, Cork City this morning.
Gardaí have made five arrests following a public gathering in Cork city centre on Sunday morning that involved HGVs and tractors moving through the area.
Shortly after 11am, Gardaí responded to reports of a gathering at Grand Parade. The group quickly grew in size and was joined by several HGVs and tractors, which moved slowly through the city centre for a period.
Uniformed Gardaí and members of the Public Order Unit engaged with the drivers, who agreed to disperse and left the area. Directions were issued under the Public Order Act to a number of individuals instructing them to leave the roadway; some failed to comply.
Five people were arrested under the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994: four males, aged in their 50s, 40s, and 30s, and one female in her 40s. All were taken to a Garda station in Cork City and later released, having been charged to appear before Cork District Court in the coming weeks.
The remainder of the crowd dispersed peacefully. No injuries were reported.
