Aptamil Infant Milk Batch Recalled After Sale Through Boots.ie Website

Parents and caregivers are being warned not to use a specific batch of Aptamil 1 From Birth First infant milk that was sold through the Boots.ie website, following a recall issued today by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.

The recall affects 800g packs with an expiry date of 31 October 2026. The product, manufactured in Ireland by Danone, was indirectly distributed to Ireland from the UK through online sales on Boots.ie.

The FSAI has confirmed the recall is due to the potential presence of cereulide, a heat-resistant toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. Consumption of foods containing cereulide can cause nausea and severe vomiting, with symptoms typically appearing within five hours and lasting between six and 24 hours.

Parents, guardians and caregivers who have purchased the affected batch are advised not to feed it to infants or young children. If no symptoms are displayed, nothing further needs to be done. Anyone concerned about their child's health should contact a healthcare professional.

The recall is linked to a contaminated raw ingredient, ARA oil manufactured in China, which was previously implicated in recent recalls of some batches of infant formula and follow-on formula. The contaminated ingredient was added to base powder used in making the products.

The FSAI and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine continue to work with Danone to ensure all food safety measures are being implemented. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale locations.

Danone is advising customers to contact its Aptamil careline team on 1800 22 1234 with any queries regarding this recall.
