An Post to Close Carrigaline Delivery Unit in Move to Little Island

An Post will consolidate its Carrigaline mail sorting facility with the existing Little Island operation on 29th September, affecting 20 postal staff who will relocate to the new base.

The state postal service confirmed that the Carrigaline delivery unit closure forms part of nationwide consolidations aimed at adapting to the growing parcel and e-commerce sector. All affected staff will transfer to the Little Island facility without job losses.

The consolidation will see postal workers who currently begin their daily rounds from the Carrigaline sorting office instead report to Little Island from 29th September. The move reflects broader changes across An Post's network as the company adapts its infrastructure to handle increasing parcel volumes whilst traditional letter deliveries continue to decline.

An Post spokesperson:

"The move is in line with similar consolidations across the country, reflecting the growth of An Post's parcel and e-commerce business and planning for the future."

The postal service is currently developing arrangements for managing undelivered mail for Carrigaline customers following the consolidation, with details to be announced once finalised.

Importantly, Carrigaline's main Post Office will continue operating normally, ensuring residents can still access counter services, collect parcels, and conduct postal business locally. Only the behind-the-scenes sorting and distribution operations are affected by the change.

The consolidation represents part of An Post's broader modernisation programme as online shopping continues to drive significant increases in parcel deliveries across Cork and Ireland. Similar facility mergers have occurred nationwide as the company streamlines operations whilst maintaining service levels.

For Carrigaline residents, the practical impact should be minimal, with mail delivery routes and schedules expected to continue unchanged despite the operational shift to Little Island.
