Africa Day 2026 Coming to Cork
Africa Day 2026 comes to Cork from 18–23 May, culminating in a Family Fun Day at Fitzgerald Park.
Cork City Council has announced the programme for Africa Day 2026, a week-long celebration of the cultures, heritage, and contributions of African communities in Cork, running from Monday, 18 May to Saturday, 23 May 2026.
The centrepiece of the week is the Africa Day Family Fun Day in Fitzgerald Park on Saturday, 23 May. The event will bring together families, performers, community groups, food vendors, and artists for a day of music, dance, children's activities, cultural stalls, sports, crafts, and entertainment. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebrations.
In the days leading up to the Family Fun Day, a packed programme of events will include an official launch, an Africa Day Seminar, a Youth Concert, an Afro Music Night, and the Unity Cup 5-a-side football tournament. Further details and timings will be confirmed closer to the date.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Fergal Dennehy, said:
"I am very much looking forward to Africa Day 2026, as it gives us all an opportunity to celebrate the vibrant African cultures and the many contributions of African communities across our city. It will be a full week of celebration and learning, with events for everyone to take part in. Cork always creates a fantastic atmosphere for Africa Day, and this year will be no different."
Cork City Council and the Cork Africa Day Committee are also issuing an open call for artists, musicians, dancers, cultural performers, community groups, workshop facilitators, youth groups, and food vendors who wish to take part. Those interested in performing on stage, hosting a workshop, running a cultural demonstration, or operating a stall are encouraged to get in touch.
