The Adrigole River has burst its banks, leaving the R572 flooded near Peg's Shop as heavy rainfall continues to batter the Beara Peninsula throughout Thursday.

Widespread spot flooding has been reported across the peninsula following significant rainfall since early morning, with motorists facing difficult driving conditions on several routes.

A Status Yellow Rainfall warning remains in effect for Cork until 8.00pm this evening, 2 October 2025, with Met Éireann advising residents to remain vigilant as heavy showers persist.

The R572 at Adrigole is currently impassable in the vicinity of Peg's Shop, where floodwater from the swollen river has covered the road. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible.

Motorists across West Cork are advised to avoid driving through flowing or standing water, which can be deeper and more dangerous than it appears. Caution should be exercised on all routes during periods of heavy rain, with surface water likely to accumulate quickly on minor roads.

Cork County Council has activated its emergency response line for residents to report flooding and road damage. The dedicated number, (021) 4800048, will remain open until 9.00am on Friday morning, 3 October 2025.

Conditions on the Beara Peninsula are expected to improve as the rainfall warning expires this evening, though localised flooding may persist in low-lying areas.
