A Status Yellow - Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Cork

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for County Cork today, with scattered thunderstorms expected throughout the afternoon and evening.

The warning, which came into effect at 14:08 today (Wednesday 14 May 2025), will remain in place until 20:00 tonight.

Forecasters are cautioning residents about possible frequent lightning strikes and spot flooding across the county as the unstable weather system moves through the region.

The national meteorological service issued the alert just after 2pm today, giving Cork residents limited advance notice of the potentially hazardous conditions.

Weather experts recommend that during thunderstorms, people should stay indoors where possible, avoid open spaces, unplug non-essential appliances, and steer clear of activities such as fishing or boating.
